Design Guidelines

Develop housing projects that are not only affordable but provide a quality of livable space, amenity, and ease of maintenance that meet the current and foreseeable sustainable and socioeconomic needs of the user. The projects will need to respond to these elements differently depending on their context. The topographic and geographic dynamics of each region should be taken into consideration and must be outlined in the project description. Creation of community interaction spaces with improved access for senior citizens and physically challenged persons and safety for children. The participants must propose ideas for energy and water conservation and solid waste disposal. 

Each house should have at least one bedroom, one bathroom, one kitchen, provision of additional functional usable space such as low height mezzanine, open to sky terrace or courtyard, storage areas, working and playing space for children, parking space for cycles, two and four-wheelers, hand carts, space for livelihood activities, incremental growth possibility for all or some of the units, specific proposals, and ideas for cost reduction in construction and building maintenance.

Participants are encouraged to use innovative materials and techniques to complete houses quickly and at a low cost.  The cost of one single unit should not exceed PKR 2 million.

(Plot shapes shall generally be rectangular quadrangles. The ratio of frontage to a depth of residential plots shall be no less than 1:1 and no more than 1:3. Minimum width of the plot shall not be less than 20ft.)
